The group of six State Representative attached two documents to
their letter. One was the fingerprint report excerpted above. (Click on the image to see the entire page.) It shows that Trooper
Arthur Martin found a set of four fingerprints on a key piece of evidence, compared them to LaGuer's, and informed Detective
Ronald Carignan of the Leominster Police that they did not match. This information was withheld from LaGuer for more
than 18 years.
When the report was finally released police and prosecutors were
unable to produce the back of the report even though the front ends mid sentence and is marked "(Over for Additional)". Rep.
Story sought more specific information in a subsequent correspondence.
Socks, unaccounted for in any inventories of items collected from
the crime scene or items delivered to the lab, mysteriously turned up in the evidence. A police report on the search of LaGuer's
apartment mentions socks. But according to the search warrant return and the detective's sworn testimony nothing was taken from the apartment. Where did the socks listed in the 5/12/00 State
Police inventory come from? And who is "LJH", the person whose initials are attached to them? A letter Rep. Story sent to Clerk of the Worcester Superior Court, following up on these questions, went unanswered.
